Kenya Trip - May 2017 - FULL
CCV is excited to send another medical team to work alongside the clinic workers of Missions of Hope International in Nairobi, Kenya. Our team will serve the school, children, and local community in the Mathare Valley community of Korogocho. Medical and Non-Medical volunteers are needed to serve in this clinic.
Trip Dates: May 26 - June 5, 2017 (through June 7 if you choose to go on safari).
REGISTRATION: You can register by clicking the red "Register" button to the left. Registration deadline is April 1, 2017 at midnight.
Trip Leader: Brandon and Heidi Figg
Who can go?
Medical Professionals of any discipline and specialty - primary care, pediatrics, nurse practitioners, RNs, assistants, dentists, physical therapists, opthalmologists, etc. If you have a heart to want to serve, God can use what you bring to the table.
Not only medical professionals are needed for this trip, so please join if you feel called to assist. Non-medical team members will help with intake, triage, prayer, and other duties to serve the community.
Adults over 18 must pass a Background Check/Volunteer Screening as a requirement, and all participants must have valid passport and be physically able to walk and hike.
Team Meetings - The team will gather for team meetings to do logistical and project prep but also training on cross-cultural ministry and spiritual prep. SAVE THE DATES: All teams will meet on Saturday afternoons, April 8, April 22, May 13 and then your team will meet another time or two in between there for more specific training!
Requirements: Each participant who signs up will be asked to attend CCV's Starting Point class (if you haven't already been) and submit a full volunteer application with background check, references, and interview. This will be initiated after you have signed up for the trip and is not an "application" indicating whether you can attend or not. They are purely steps in the preparation process. Each team member will also be required to attend all pre-trip preparation meetings.
Trip Cost: $3500 per person ($4500 if you choose to do safari).
Included in this fee: Airfare from Phoenix to Nairobi, accommodations, transportation and meals while in country. This also cover medical insurance, visa fee, luggage fees, and pre-trip materials.
Not included: Passport fees, any shots you elect to get, and any personal spending money for meals during travel and souvenirs.
$500 deposit per person is non-refundable at the time of registration. If a cancellation is made after airline tickets have been purchased you will be responsible for the cost of the ticket.
Final Balance is due by May 15, 2017.
POST TRIP SAFARI OPTION:
This year there is an optional Safari being added to the end of the trip. If you choose to participate, you won't return home to Phoenix until Wednesday, June 7. The cost will be an additional $1000. This portion of the fee can not be fundraised and this is not part of the mission trip.
We absolutely encourage fundraising. Very few people pay for the trip on their own. Number 1 way is to send support letters. Tell your friends and family about the trip, share with them the ministry, and ask them to donate. Number 2 way is to put in some hard work and do garage sales and car washes, get together with other team members to make a bigger impact. You will talk about this when you get together as a team. Any donations made to CCV for your trip are tax deductible for the donor as long as they follow the instructions and give online or use the Covenant Form!

Where will we be staying?
You will stay at a comfortable guesthouse or hotel in Nairobi within a half hour drive of the clinic.
Do I need a passport?
A Valid passport is required for all participants. Passport cannot expire within 6 months of the trip's return date and cannot be damaged in any way. Please visit travel.state.gov for up to date information and to apply or renew. The state department is expecting a high volume of passport applications and renewals in 2017, so please apply early and allow yourself 2-3 months before the trip to get your passport in.
Do I need to get any shots? Where can I get shots?
Please visit cdc.gov/travel for up to date vaccination requirements for your destination. All shots are recommended and not required. We will let you know if Yellow Fever vaccine is required based on our travel itinerary. There are lots of great travel clinics in the valley to get your shots, so you can find one close and convenient for you.
Do I need a Visa? How do I get it?
A visa is required for those who have a valid USA passport that doesn't require within 6 months. We will assist you in the paperwork and you will gain your visa upon arrival in country. It doesn't need to be sent away for ahead of time.
